WELCOME TO BOND STREET DOJO Our dojo was started by Terry Dobson and Ken Nisson in 1973. We pride ourselves in carrying on the Bond Street tradition of fundamental Aikido training. We hope you evaluate all your options before choosing to join us. New York Aikido Society, Inc. is operated and financed solely by membership participation. As such, we are looking for dedicated and responsible members. It is important for every potential member to understand our dojo policies and objectives.
Our expectations for your first few years of training are not high. Instead, they are wide. The width we are referring to is the measurement of your progress in the area of basics and fundamentals. We expect you will be able to get along with the dojo members and to follow Bond Street training methods. It is our goal to follow Ueshiba O-Senseis Aikido teaching and to strive toward realization of his vision under the guidance of Shihan Mitsugi Saotome.
Regardless of the martial art experience you bring into the Bond Street Dojo, your goal in Aikido training should be to maintain your health: physical and mental. You are expected to achieve this objective through both gentle and strenuous practices. Along the way, we hope you will acquire technical knowledge, physical and mental strength, and spirit of harmony.
The next step is yours.
Signed,
Paul Kang
